{Beginner Crochet} For all you new hookers…

Ha ha ha…Hookers!

No, I’m not being naughty – it’s just how those of us with a sense of humor refer to each other.  🙂

If you are considering learning how to crochet – I truly hope that this site will be a go-to place for any questions or frustrations you might have.

In the next few months, I will be posting patterns (with photos of the finished projects) for you to try.  I have found that most people think that they can take a YouTube lesson on crochet and then whip up an afghan or even one of those cute Owl hats in no time. Unfortunately, that tends to not be the case.

You will want to master the art of chaining, single crochet and turning your work before you go any further.  Just those three things can take people quite a bit of time.  But don’t let that discourage you!  Once you get those three stitches mastered, you will be confident enough to move into pattern reading, andor even a few intermediate stitches.

The following link is what I used for a refresher course in crochet when I returned to it about ten years ago.  The instructions are still the same, only now they have added videos to go along with them.  Keep in mind, there are different ways to hold a hook and different ways to keep the tension on your yarn.  Just do whatever feels most comfortable to you.

Crochet Instructions and Help from LionBrand.com

You will want to master the first eight steps (of what they have listed) in order to not get completely frustrated and give up the craft.  The chain is easy.  The single crochet is easy.  Turning your work gives most people problems just because they don’t think it looks right.

You can do it.  Trust me!

This is a long lost art, that without our generation, will completely disappear over the next twenty years.  Being able to create a beautiful piece of art with just a skein of yarn, a crochet hook, and your own two hands is truly a gift.

I look forward to helping you all on your journey of crochet!  Please feel free to comment on this post with any questions or comments you might have.  Or if you so choose, also feel free to email me at any time, I am more than happy to help you with anything!

Good luck friends, and Happy Hooking!
